Company Profile

SFA International, Inc.

SFA International, Inc. is the successor to SFA Technologies, Inc, a New Jersey Corporation based in Georgetown, CT and founded in 1980. Initial business focused on supplying magnesium-based fuel additives to customers in Saudi Arabia operating combustion turbines for the generation of electricity on unrefined crude oils. During this period, SFA Technologies purchased components from various chemical manufacturers and formulated finished fuel additives.

In 1993, SFA Technologies moved to Houston to start manufacturing oil-soluble metal components used in the formulation of liquid petroleum fuel additives. It reorganized as SFA International, Inc., a Texas corporation.

Since 1993, SFA has developed proprietary manufacturing processes for its product line and discovered a unique combustion catalyst technology. SFA sells through a distributor network with warehouses in Houston, St. Martinville, LA, Pusan, Korea and Manama, Bahrain.

Liquid Petroleum Fuel Additive Components and Formulations

SFA International is engaged in the development, manufacturing and marketing of specialty chemicals used in the formulation of liquid petroleum fuel additives. Our core business is the manufacture of oil-soluble metal compounds used in liquid petroleum fuel additive formulations. These metals are used to:

  • Catalyze combustion, reduce particulate emissions and improve fuel efficiency
  • Prevent deposits and hot corrosion on hot path metal parts in various kinds of engines caused by oil-soluble metals and water-soluble alkali metals and alkaline earth salts
  • Neutralize sulfuric acid in exhaust gases to reduce acid rain

These products are used in Combustion Turbines, Diesel Engines, Process Heaters and Steam Boilers in a wide variety of liquid petroleum fuels ranging from naptha to residual oil. We also have applications in solid fossil fuels.

Combustion Catalyst Technology

SFA International has developed a patented combustion catalyst technology using a unique combination of iron and magnesium. The catalyst results in more efficient combustion of the fuel.

  • Reduce carbon emissions up to 90% in engine exhausts compared with 50% reduction reported in the literature
  • Yield fuel savings in Diesel engines commensurate with the level of particulate emissions in the exhaust.

We have rigorously evaluated the catalyst in fuels ranging from naptha to residual oil in several kinds of engines: Data have been measured by laboratories in Great Britain, India and Korea as well as extensive field evaluations since 1996. There are several papers in our Technical Paper Library discussing the mechanism of catalysis and presentations of test data. For information about applications of our catalyst technology in a variety of engines and fuels, please contact us for our combustion catalyst Experience List.

Five patents on this technology have been filed in the United States. Two have issued and the third is in the last stages of office action. These have also had foreign filings with one in thirty-two countries.

Superior Technology

SFA's product line is based on manufacturing processes that result in high quality and consistent product. The technology supporting the product line is a result of years of study and application of scientific principles to products and their use as fuel additives. This position is supported by technical papers presented in our Technical Library. In our technical sales presentations, we take great pride in presenting the "how's and why's" concerning our products and how they function.

We invite you to review our product line and visit our Technical Paper Library for more information.
