FloSpec™ Drag Reducers
Drag reducers are products that improve flow of fluids through
pipelines. Drag reducer compounds have an ultrahigh molecular
weight in the range of 25 million. These long molecules in
the fluid break up turbulent flow at the annulus of the pipe
and transform it toward laminar flow. The result is lower
horsepower and pressure to pump the same amount of fluid.
Conversely, more fluid can be pumped through the pipeline
at the same pressure.
FloSpec™ Drag Reducers have been thoroughly tested and
are in use in the United States in large pipelines. The normal
treating rate is 15 ppm wt/wt at each pump station. Because
of the fragility of the molecules, they are broken up when
they pass through a pump station and the pipeline has to be
treated again.
We have two products, a fluid and a gel. Their properties
are described in the following table.
FloSpec™ 511 must be shipped and stored at low temperatures.
It is generally shipped in drums or bulk in refrigerated containers.
